Weldtite sponsors Pearl and Dean for Africa!

April 9, 2014

Pearl & Dean have recruited 21 ‘heroes’ to take on a challenge of a lifetime in order to raise money for children in Africa who without the help of our two charities would not have a future.

They have teamed up with The Sustainability Institute in South Africa who provide education and hope for children affected by alcoholism in this area.

They have also teamed up with HOPEHIV who offer support to children in Africa who have been orphaned by HIV.

The Triathlon Alpe D’Huez is described as “Probably one of the most beautiful, but definitely one of the hardest” in the triathlon calendar. For all of the team taking part The Triathlon Alpe D’Huez provides a real challenge – many people before signing up to this were either not sporty at all, couldn’t swim, had never ridden a bike before!!!

Last years event!

The team are training hard and supporting each other for the seven months leading up to the challenge and one of the things that keeps us motivated is knowing that we are raising money for children, who otherwise might be facing a very bleak future.

At the front, the former British triathlon champion Rick Kiddle, who is our coach!

Training at Champneys!

Getting in the cardio!

The triathlon we are competing in is the EDF Alpe D’Huez triathlon which is a 2.2km swim in bone chilling 13-14 degree water, a 115km bike which takes in climbs at Alpe Du Grand Serre, Col D’Ornon and culminating on the Tour de France route 22 hairpin bend climb of Alpe D’Huez and then a 22km run at c.2,000m.
