We Love Mountains DH Team update…

May 7, 2014

The Team where at Scottish downhill series round 2 at Dunkeld last weekend.

Dunkeld still holds its name as “The Man Track” with plenty of crashes (hope all is ok and a speedy recovery) steep shoots, rocks and plenty of mud, after the heavens opened up on Friday made the track into a bog fest that turned into the most challenging track we have seen in a long time, we seen some riders turning round and going home and some pulling out after Saturday practice, this track had everything to chuck at you and riders were glad to make it down in one piece,

Due to all the bad weather set a lot of delays with red flags going up and bus drivers scared of the mud meaning riders had to go old school sit in back of the cattle trucks which to be fair were a lot quicker on the turn around,
Teams riders managed to get themselves stuck in and get down to business even rider Marc Purkiss taken getting stuck in to the new level and over the bars on his first run and into the mud finishing with a DNF, but so glad to see him back on the bike and put a safe time down for his 2nd run, rider Stewart managed to get a run down on his first with a few stuck into the mud moments, on his 2nd run crashing on the first corner down but made it down to the finish line, team riders Andy and Luke were keeping on top form both on the top spot, Luke having some crazy skills doing a superman on the seat on way to the finish line placed him 1st,

With rider Andy this being his first Scottish downhill race this year started the masters category down the track, with the speed he can produce he did not let that mud get in his way and a fast run down leaving him in the hot seat where no one could knock him off finished in 1st making it a hat trick with a 3 races down and 6 podiums between them

I’ve got to say a massive well done to the team as they did really well to get on with it and get down, and well done to all the riders that raced and people that crashed and were hurt we hope a speedy recovery.

SDA will be handing out podium prizes at Ae Forest round 3.

Overall results Andy Kipling 1st in Masters with a 2 mins 28 secs , Luke Birkett 1st in Juvenile in a 2 mins 52 secs, Marc Purkiss 23rd in Masters with a 4 mins 03 secs (injured from first run) and Stewart Wood 22nd in Masters in a 3 mins 57 secs.

The team will be at Fort William for the British Downhill series on 10th-11th May where there is 71 elite riders entered including all the worlds best, let’s hope for a dry day.
