Christmas inspiration? You got it here!

December 15, 2014

I can’t believe that it’s a year ago since I wrote Weldtite’s Christmas wish list. Along with the crowd at Weldtite Towers, we’ve spent the last 12 months writing down ideas whenever something came along that truly inspired us. Princess Hazy did get her Tiffany wish list taken away from her this year though. Here are our recommendations…

Cyclo Modular Workstation

What a great idea – a removable head. A lot of thought and time went into this design and so, one minute, you’ve got a truly portable bike stand and the next, you’ve got in mounted on your work bench or mounted to the wall of your apartment to hold your pride and joy!

Essential bike maintenance is so easily done with the Cyclo Modular Workstation.

Cyclo Modular Workstation – £200

Paul Smith Socks

For the man about town with real style. So OK, maybe you have to wear a shirt and trousers for work. Show your edgy personality with a pair of Paul Smith socks. Comfortable with great design, they’ll brighten up any trousers and Oxford’s.

Starting at £99 and rising to £399 for the GoPro Hero4 Black with 4K resolution, GoPro is a must for us bikers. Just their channel alone is enough to make you grab your bike and just ride! This is incredible kit and the fact that it’s the size of a matchbox is incredible. GoPro is a young, exciting company that really is going places in the coolest and nicest possible way!

GoPro from £99.

BOOKS – Bring out the culture vulture with these quirky coffee table reads…

New York Bike Style

“Sometimes I think about the moment when I fell in love with riding a bike in New York City,” writes Mr Sam Polcer, the photographer behind the ultimate style guide for any gent preferring two wheels to four. Full of vivid photographs and captions noting the subjects’ name, bike of choice, route and destination, Polcer’s compilation of the city’s eccentric cycling population pays colourful tribute to their preferred mode of travel.

Locals Only: Skateboarding in California 1975-1978

The title says it all! Amazing photography – too essential for us skater boys.

Sneakers: The Complete Limited Editions Guide

I bought the original version of this book way back when I graduated in 2005. Ever since then, this has been the book that friends just can’t put down whenever they visit my house. Always a talking point!

A true collectible for Vespa fans, this 248-page hardcover tome will tell you everything you need to know about the iconic scooter. Written in collaboration with manufacturer Piaggio, it relates the story of its origins in post-war Italy, moving through the years to when it gained international stardom after appearing in William Wyler’s Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Since then it’s been a symbol of style and freedom, and this colourful analogue pays homage to the most iconic designs and luxury editions, as well as documenting a host of technical and stylistic attributes.

Caps: One size fits all!

WOW, an interesting one this! “There are many of us who throw them on each morning, unaware of how much this humble design has changed fashion on a global scale,” says Mr Steve Bryden. Here, the trend forecaster and streetwear expert traces the evolution of the cap from practical accessory to style statement, and explores its popularity with everyone from rappers to punk rockers. Vivid imagery details design and construction, whilst connoisseurs and collectors offer their opinion on modern cap culture.

Urban Archaelogy: Twenty one years of Mo’Wax

Mo’Wax was an iconic UK-based record label, championing independent music, new genres and urban subculture. Founded in London in 1992 by Mr James Lavelle (who has edited this edition), the collective brought trip hop, turntablism and alternative hip hop into the public sphere, and this legacy is explored in depth in Rizzoli‘s extensive hardback book. Containing album sleeves created by legendary graffiti artists and graphic designers, interviews with musicians including DJ Shadow and Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack, this unique publication also includes a retrospective of brand collaborations, such as a Nike sneaker range and vinyl toys for Kubrick – a true celebration of music, style and culture.

Films, documentaries, biking in HD all for £5.99 a month. Totally worth it!

APP – Pluto TV

100 HD TV channels free to watch. With a 18million dollar investment, this cproject/vision/idea is going far. Cool channels including Extreme Sports, a surfing channel, skate boarding, snowboarding, men’s fashion, heck, even a channel for dogs! OK, so the videos are taken from YouTube but they’re all great. TV with character!

Apple TV

Essential little box last year and £20 cheaper this year PLUS we’ve got Red Bull Sports TV in HD on it now with non stop mountain biking and more biking and road cycling . If you prefer music, you can always stream your iTunes library wirelessly to it. Clever little thing.

Apple TV – £79.

Beat Street T

There’s a B-Boy in all of us bikers. Show your worth with this retro T from the 1984 movie ‘Beat Street’. Wear with skinny jeans and Converse!

Beatstreet T – £10.

Cyclo Tools

Cyclo Tools are a part of Weldtite. With their lifetime guarantee, these tools are a once in a lifetime investment that last!

Surfers Against Sewage pack

For the environmentalist, activist and surfer out there – yes, me included, a membership to Surfers Against Sewage will really impress!

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is an environmental charity protecting the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for all to enjoy safely and sustainably, via community action, campaigning, volunteering, conservation, education and scientific research.

Membership from £10.

Dirtwash Disc Brake Rotor Wipes

Now these are perfect for the works Secret Santa prezzi’s. No stress for £1.99!

Dirtwash Disc Brake Rotor Wipes – £1.99.

Bluetooth speakers

This really has been the year from Bluetooth speakers for your iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Smartphone – whatever! Some have been relly great and some, well, not so great. B&O launched one, BOSE continued to do well. For me, the best sounding one in terms of rich bass and a really nice, clear treble has got to be the B&W T7 from Bowers & Wilkins. Known for making superb speakers, this unit shines. Clean design too. This should definitely be on your shortlist!

Bowers & Wilkins T7 – £299.

PURE and TF2 Bike Maintenance

There’s always been a fierce loyalty rivalry between PURE and TF2 on the Weldtite Facebook page. Show your eco credentials with the entire Pure range of wash, wet and dry lubes, bike oil and polish OR perhaps Mr Slick prefers the TF2 range with their Teflon superpowers!

Ultimate bike luxury for well under £40 for each brand.

A personal favourite, maybe because KONA was the very first mountain bike that I rode as a lil shorty! At £450, this is a perfect choice for anyone new to the lifestyle!

Kona L’ana – £449.

Pioneer DJJ-Wego 3

For the DJ in all of us – yep, us boys are totally guilty but, coming to think of it, how sexy does a lady look when she’s DJing!!! This little Pioneer DJJ-Wego3 is perfect. It’s truly ideal at those house parties that get totally out of control. At £249, it’s a tenth of the price of a pair of CDJ2000 Nexus and a DJM900 Nexus mixer. What I really like about the lil Wego3 is the fact that you can use your iPad Mini or iPhone with it rather than having to take your expensive MacBook Pro or Air to a party – I’m having nightmares already about the drunken guy spilling his bottled beer over the keyboard!!! Loved it last year, love it even more this year and the new Wego3 is £50 cheaper than last years model!

Pioneer DJJ-Wego 3 – £249.

Pit Stop

How about the Weldtite Pit Stop cleaning kit? This 2.3 litre bucket is loaded with TF2 Aerosol spray, Dirtwash bike cleaning spray, Citrus degreaser, a sponge, a cloth and sprocket brush!

A really nice idea to fill that bag of surprises!

Weldtite Pit Stop – £20.

Magazine subscription

I’m crazy about magazines – yeah, I buy far too many. How about a magazine subscription from your favourite cycling or mountain biking mag? Often there’s free gifts and a discount to be had plus the excitement of it jumping through your letterbox is simply devine! My favourite is Conde Nest Traveller. I can’t get enough of this inspiring read and even in drab, winter, rainy England, days are given an uplift with this read from around the world!

And there you have it, our ideas or really really really wants for Christmas ideas! Whatever you do or decide on, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a great biking and safe 2015 from us all here at Weldtite Towers.
